Hunasekayi Thokku/ Chintakaya Pachadi

Hunase Thokku

Thokku roughly translates to 'coarse mixture'. If you have this coarse mixture in hand, it is easy to convert it into pickle or make any other dish from it.

Hunase thokku/ Raw tamarind thokku is yummy as a pickle.

A simple recipe :

Roughly chopped raw tamarind - 4 cups
Crystal Salt- 1 cup
Green Chilli- 100g
Turmeric - 1 tbsp.
Fenugreek seeds powder - little less than 1/4 cup
Asafoetida powder- 1 tbsp.

Method:
1. Select young tamarind. Mature tamarind has hard seed inside it which makes the pickle bitter.
2. Wash with several changes of water. Wipe it with dry cloth. Let it dry for 30 minutes. Follow same procedure with green chili.
3. Chop the tamarind into small pieces.
4. Grind fenugreek seeds into fine powder. Add tamarind, asafoetida, turmeric, green chilli and grind to coarse mixture.
